Interior Design trending still include inspirations from nature, neutral tones, and muted earthy tones. New trends include the addition of pops of bright colors and wellness spaces with an indoor garden aesthetic. On the rise in popularity are multi-functional spaces, minimalist functional kitchens, smart home elements, and dedicated workspaces in the home. Making a comeback are rattans, bamboo, and wicker furnishings.
Smart Home Interior Design Trends
The technology surrounding smart homes is growing at a fast pace, so much so that we cannot fully cover it here. New products are introduced weekly and sometimes daily. However, even if you are not building a new smart home from the ground up there are some very basic things you can add to your pre-existing home. Smart light switches, wireless video doorbells, a home security system with smart locks, thermostats, and even a wireless smoke alarm are totally doable.
Most of us already have a few smart technology helpers such as robotic vacuums. If you want to integrate several devices throughout your home you will need to decide what type of hub your smart home will utilize. A true state-of-the-art smart home will allow you to control everything with a finger touch or voice command. You may already be familiar with voice assistants such as Siri, Google Home, Amazon Echo, and Sonos One.
Some tried and true as well as up-and-coming smart house hubs are:
- Google Nest Hub Max
- Amazon Echo (4th Gen)
- Samsung SmartThings WiFi
- Apple Home Pod
- Samsung SmartThings Hub V3
- Apple TV 4K
- Apple Home Pod Mini
- Amazon Echo Show 10
- Amazon Echo Dot
- Amazon Alexa
- Hubitat Elevation
- Wink Hub
Smart Hubs unify your smart devices. There are upwards of 3,000 smart home devices. As mentioned before the subject of smart home technology, information and categories are vast and growing larger by the day. Start with the basics and add a few devices at a time. When you feel the need to have a central hub do your homework and educate yourself as to what is out there and what best fits your needs.
Many smart homes are being built from the ground up and this trend is also quickly gaining momentum. One day smart home technology will be considered essential. The emergence of newer technology will lead to core smart systems being built into homes that may have the capacity to gather intelligence to discover problems and optimize resources.

Wellness Designs and Interior Garden Spaces
With the general current trends leaning toward Wellness designs in 2023, interior garden spaces are becoming more popular than ever. Nothing breathes life into your interior like healthy foliage can. Even if you do not have a green thumb there are many easy-to-grow varieties of indoor house plants.
As in the Wellness Indoor Garden Mood Board above, bringing in just a few plants in your various rooms, coupled with other garden green elements gives your space a natural retreat vibe allowing it to breathe. Not only will it rejuvenate your space but will do the same for you. Green is associated with health and well-being, bringing harmony, peace, and prosperity to both your home and your psyche.
Pops of Color, Interior Design Trend
Many interior design professionals state that pops of color are trending in home spaces. People have been confined to their homes due to the pandemic, therefore many are making changes to brighten their environments in their home spaces. Pops of color can bring visual interest and energy to a space that has grown tired and uninspiring.
Bright colors paired with muted backgrounds or layered pops of color used throughout your design that are outside the norm can bring surprising energy elevating your interior design to a new level. Start slow with accent furniture pieces, throw pillows, and other decor items, maybe a focal wall, or rugs as you only want enough color to spark interest and not overwhelm the senses.
Dedicated Home Office, Interior Design Trend
In conclusion, both multi-functional spaces and dedicated home office spaces are on the rise. Trends show a defined workspace with lots of light and greenery is great for increasing productivity. Multi-functional spaces that can provide additional storage while serving as guest quarters, an underutilized room that can serve as closet space, and a dressing room. In addition, an outdoor space that can serve as an outdoor kitchen as well as, an entertaining area, is all on-trend this year. What will your next project be?
