Crispy Asian Peanut Chicken Wings

Crispy Asian Peanut Chicken Wings

These Crispy Asian Peanut Chicken Wings are not only tasty but are also Keto Friendly and gluten-free. This a great alternative to fried wings and much healthier. You will only need a few ingredients to prepare these flavorful chicken wings. This recipe can be used as an appetizer or paired with a couple of sides for a complete meal.

Ingredients you will need chicken wings, baking soda, organic corn starch, PB2, or other gluten-free powdered peanut butter product. You will also need gluten-free Tamara or gluten-free soy sauce, GF fish sauce, and fresh lime. Optionally you can use hot pepper flakes or GF Sriracha in the marinade for added zest. For dipping sauce ingredients you will need gluten-free hoisin sauce, honey (or a honey substitute for Keto), and additional soy sauce.

Chicken wings are great for parties and tailgating but also make a great everyday main dish. There are so many wonderful combinations other than the ever-popular buffalo wings. These Asian-inspired wings are perfect for any day of the week. They are incredibly tender inside and crispy on the outside.

Tender Inside and Crispy Outside

The dipping sauce is totally optional however these chicken wings pair well with a slightly sweet sauce. Personally, I like to eat them as is because I love, love, love the crunch. There are a couple of ways to coat the wings but the preferred and less messy way is the bag method. If you use a bowl method to coat the wings I would recommend doubling the dry ingredients for convenience.

The process takes approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours including prep, marinade, and cook time. I like to cook these wings on a weekend when I have plenty of time. They come out crispy and golden. They smell wonderful cooking. You may have to play referee by calling a few timeouts and illegal holding until ready to serve!

Appetizer Feeds 4 – 6 People

This recipe is perfect for 4 – 6 people as an appetizer. Oven cooking time may need to be adjusted depending on your oven. I recommend checking your wings every 10 to 15 minutes to monitor the cooking progress so they do not overcook. If you are feeding a crowd you will need to double or quadruple recipe quantities. Also recommended for feeding a crowd would be additional metal oven-proof wire racks for cooking due to cooking time.

There is a little food science at work in this recipe so be sure to include all the marinade and coating ingredients for the best results.

Toss the chicken wings repeatedly until well coated with the marinade and place in the refrigerator. Allow chicken to marinate for 1 hour tossing occasionally to re-coat wings with the marinade.

15 – 30 minutes prior to cooking (depending on your oven time to fully pre-heat) adjust the oven rack to the upper-middle position and preheat the oven to 450 F.

Bake 30 minutes and then turn cooking for another 20 – 30 minutes until slightly browned and crispy. Serve wings immediately.

For an appetizer serve with dipping sauce if desired or serve with an Asian Ramen Salad. If making a meal of it recommended sides are steamed rice and oven-roasted snow peas. The dipping sauce is optional as these wings are great and very flavorful as is. If using a dipping sauce these wings pair well with a slightly sweet sauce.

Asian Wing Dipping Sauce

Asian Wing Dipping Sauce

The Asian dipping sauce consists of hoisin sauce, honey, and soy sauce. Hoisin sauce is sweet on its own but the additions go well with the Asian Peanut Wings. The dipping sauce is not a Keto-friendly food. Some hoisin sauces with a lower carb content work well without the additions. Check labels for carbohydrate count.

On another note, here in Texas, we are currently in the middle of a polar vortex. This a historic weather event for the state of Texas. This type of weather is pretty much unheard of in Dallas and extends as far south as Del Rio, Texas with sub-zero temperatures headed our way. The high today was 18 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore my next food inspiration will be a piping hot “bowl of red”, legendary Texas Chili, to take the chill off.
