Louisiana is one of Texas’s neighboring states and as Texans, we do love New Orleans-style hurricanes. Taken straight from The Big Easy itself this recipe for Hurricanes NOLA style is sure to please. Where did it get the name hurricane? It was served in a glass that resembled a hurricane lamp. Throw out some confetti, string some bright lights, balloons, and paper chains with lots of bright colors for a festive mood.

Hurricanes NOLA Style

Serve in 8 oz glasses over ice, top with 1 teaspoon grenadine and maraschino cherries; garnish as desired

Serves 16

This delicious cocktail combines dark rum, light rum, passion fruit juice, lime juice, orange juice, and grenadine for an exotic tropical taste.

Serve it in a tall hurricane glass with a bright red cherry on top and let your mouth be transported to the Big Easy!

This recipe version is true to tradition with orange juice however, there are many versions of the highly popular Hurricane drink. Some versions will produce a redder color.

Hurricanes NOLA Style

Ingredients

  • 2 cups light rum
  • 2 cups dark rum
  • 4 cups of fresh orange juice
  • 2 cups passion fruit juice (found in the juice aisle) 
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

Directions

Mix the above in a picture for serving.

Serve in 8 oz glasses over ice, top with 1 teaspoon grenadine and maraschino cherries; garnish as desired.

Toppings

Toppings and garnish:

  • ⅓ cup grenadine (Drizzle 1 t. over each serving)
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Thinly sliced lemons, oranges, and limes for garnish
