Heartbreak in the Texas Hill Country: A Community in Mourning

Over the July 4th weekend, Kerr County and surrounding areas in Central Texas were devastated by one of the deadliest floods in state history. In a matter of hours, the peaceful Guadalupe River surged more than 20 feet, sweeping away homes, memories, and far too many lives. As the death toll continues to rise, over 170 people are confirmed missing, including dozens of children.

Among the heart-wrenching losses were 27 campers and counselors at Camp Mystic, a beloved summer retreat that became ground zero for this unimaginable tragedy. Families were torn apart, communities shattered, and the landscape forever changed.

Yet in the midst of this sorrow, Texans are showing what it means to stand together. First responders, neighbors, and volunteers are working around the clock to rescue, recover, and rebuild.
