Texas Ranch Water

texas ranch water

Texas has many popular drinks. Texas Ranch Water is gaining popularity with a cult-like following. There are many types of generalized ranch water recipes, however, Texas Ranch Water was inspired by a Far West Texas Legend. This bubbly, citrus flavor drink is one of my personal favorites. This drink is so refreshing when the weather turns hot, it does not contain salt to bloat you, and is light and refreshing.

Far West Texas Legend

Although the official origin of this drink is unknown it is thought to be associated with a Texas rancher who as the story goes, followed the West Texas Stars from Fort Davies to Marathon Texas by foot and fell asleep. The drink is a regional drink duly sanctioned by inhabitants of Far West Texas just East and West of the Pecos River, which originates in central Mexico, flows through Texas, and into New Mexico.

What is Texas Ranch Water made of?

It is made of a mix of tequila, lime juice, and sparkling mineral water that has become the unofficial drink of West Texas.

Aztec Legend and Texas Ranch Water

Quench your thirst on a hot summer day with the popular TX Ranch Water. Mineral water such as Topo Chico is one of the key ingredients although you can substitute other sparkling mineral waters if you choose. Topo Chico’s has extra bubbly effervescence making it the best choice in my opinion and is the popular choice as well.  Topo Chico is sourced from a natural spring called Cerro del Topo Chico in Monterrey, Mexico, and has been since 1895. The Topo Chico legend dates back to the Aztecs in the 1400s as a natural water medicinal cure and has gained popularity in recent years. The origin of this drink is unknown. Many legends about its inventor circulate to this day. Bartenders have been serving it longer than most folks can remember. The Gage Hotel was founded in 1927 by rancher Alfred Gage and Ranch Water had been a standard drink order through the years. It was officially added to their cocktail menu in 2010. Other Texas establishments also claim to name the iconic West Texas drink.

Texas Ranch Water is a drink that is popular in Texas, especially in the West Texas region. It is made with tequila, lime juice, and club soda, and is often served over ice. Some variations also include ingredients like salt or simple syrup. The drink is typically served as a refreshing, low-alcohol alternative to a traditional margarita. It is often garnished with a slice of lime.

What does Texas Ranch Water taste like?

Texas Ranch Water has a refreshing, citrusy flavor, with the taste of lime and tequila coming through prominently. The club soda adds a light, fizzy element to the drink, and the addition of simple syrup adds a touch of sweetness and balances out the flavors. Overall, the taste is similar to that of a margarita, but with a lighter, more refreshing feel due to the addition of club soda.
